Hungary’s leading broadcaster RTL Klub will effectively “save” HUF3 billion (€9.8 million) this year thanks to last minute changes to a new and controversial advertising law.
However, reports Portfolio, it insists that from 2015 it will still have to pay more than 50% of the total amount collected through the tax, given that it accounts for around 15% of the country’s ad market.
RTL Klub’s ad tax bill for this year will amount to HUF600 million.
In its view, “the real objective of the law is to incapacitate RTL (Klub) and drastically limit press freedom.”
