Sony will be launching PlayStation TV in Europe and across the PAL region later this year. PS TV is a new micro console costing €99.
PlayStation TV is an entertainment system that extends the capabilities of PlayStation 4 allowing players to stream their PS4 games to any TV in their house. PS TV will also be made available in the US and Canada for $99.
The PS TV is able to stream games to any TV set in the home, but will also be capable to stream internet video, which could position the device as a competitor to devices such as Apple TV, Roku and Google Chromecast.
Released in Japan and Asian last November as PlayStation Vita TV, the system has since continuously evolved through software updates and content enhancements. Adopting the same chip sets and system software as the PlayStation Vita, PS TV has a 6.5cm × 10.5cm ultra slim size.
In response to the demands from users in Europe and the PAL region, Sony will introduce the system under a new name and colour, and “will deliver entertainment experiences only possible on PS TV.”
PlayStation TV will be available either as a standalone device or as part of a bundle with a DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card, a HDMI cable, and a voucher for Lego: The Movie the video game.
