Russian broadcasters are facing the prospect of paying increased fees for the use of the country’s second DTT multiplex.
Kommersant reports that that the amount per channel for this year (R500 million – €10.5 million) could grow to R1 billion in 2015, when the multiplex is fully up and running.
The prepayments required by RTRS, starting at around R38 million per month from this July, negate to some degree the savings made by broadcasters in switching from analogue to digital.
Unlike the second multiplex, the channels carried by the first multiplex are not required to pay a fee.
