Poland’s Competition Office (UOKiK) has ruled against UPC Polska over fines it imposes on its subscribers.
In a statement, it says that the PLN5,000 (€1,202) penalty for connecting more computers on TVs to the internet than specified in their contracts is excessive.
Furthermore, it does not reflect the damage done to the company by the activities of consumers.
Proceedings against UPC Polska were initiated in October 2013 and the operator is required to make the necessary changes to its terms within three months of the date of the UOKiK’s decision.
In future, fines imposed by UPC Polska will correspond to the monthly fee for each person or entity unlawfully using its services.
