Cisco has announced that service provider TeliaSonera has selected the Cisco Remote-PHY solution to expand its service and increase bandwidth across its entire cable footprint in Finland.
TeliaSonera already has an installed base of Cisco Cable Modem Termination Systems (CMTS) based on the Cisco UBR 10k.
The introduction of the Cisco Remote-PHY solution means TeliaSonera will be able to increase broadband service bandwidth for all subscribers, even those in sparsely populated areas, without extensive capital or operational expenditure.
Sakari Kangasvieri, Cable Network Manager, TeliaSonera Finland Oyj, said:
“In a competitive environment, the ability to offer high-speed services to all our subscribers and connect those who previously were unable to access premium broadband services is a key differentiator.” He added, “Through our work with Cisco, we are transforming our network to provide better services for our subscribers and address our operational and capital expenditure.”
Patrick Gordin, Regional Sales Manager, Operators and Outsourcers, Cisco Systems Finland Oy, added: “Cable Service Providers across Europe are seeking ways to keep ahead of their customers’ bandwidth needs without incurring large capital or operational charges. Our innovative Remote-PHY solution is a key tool to help achieve these goals. TeliaSonera’s approach to its network will mean that it is able to further monetize its platform and expand in a sustainable way.”
Built on Cisco’s industry leading CMTS product portfolio (including the Cisco UBR 10000), Cisco Remote-PHY is a part of company’s recently announced plan to achieve full virtualization of the cable access architecture.
