German cable operator Tele Columbus has taken over all cable network assets from cable company Gesellschaft für Breitbandkabel- und Satellitenkommunikationstechnik (GBS) in federal state North-Rhine Westphalia.
Financial details have not been disclosed. In the past 25 years, GBS has installed satellite head-ends and distribution networks at large housing areas and provided them with TV signals.
The base of around 1,900 connected apartments in Cologne suburb Meschenich and Bergheim will in future be served by Tele Columbus and gradually be upgraded for triple play services. As the first step, the households will receive the TV product portfolio from Tele Columbus. In future, the apartments will be connected to the company’s hybrid cable/fibre-optic network.
When the upgrade measures are completed, the households will be provided with analogue and digital television including HDTV as well as telephony and high-speed internet services.
