The service will comprise Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins, sixx, Sat.1 Gold and ProSieben Maxx. 7TV, as the app will be called, will also contain a catch-up TV service on which the programmes of the past seven days can be watched in full length.
A marketing collaboration has been set up with German mobile network company e-plus which will offer the app to its 6 million customers.
According to a report by German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the app will cost €2.99 per month. ProSiebenSat.1 expects to gain around 50,000 subscribers in the first year.
With the move, the company responds to the growing demand for mobile access of TV content in particular among young people. ProSiebenSat.1’s app will compete with third-party players like Zattoo, Magine TV and Entertain which already offer the TV group’s channels as live-streams on their mobile platforms.
