The Romanian National Audiovisual Council (CNA) has summoned the country’s five leading cable operators to publicly explain why they are not offering some “must carry” channels.
Mediafax reports that the five operators – RCS&RDS, UPC, Romtelecom, Next Gen and Digital Cable Systems – are in breach of Article 82 of the Broadcasting Act, which makes it mandatory to distribute some channels, a list of which was published by the regulator on February 4.
Significantly, the “must carry” requirement only applies to cable operators, not DTH platforms.
The CNA decided to make checks on the operators following a meeting on April 3. It has also summoned 15 smaller cable companies.
