Kudelski Group has announced that its OpenTV and Nagravision subsidiaries have filed a patent infringement suit against Apple in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
The lawsuit alleges that Apple infringes five US patents owned by OpenTV and Nagravision, and identifies Apple’s infringing products and services as including iOS mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod), Apple TV, App Store, iTunes, iADs, Safari, and OS X-based personal computers.
The companies are seeking a permanent injunction, attorneys fees, and unspecified financial damages that are “in no event less than a reasonable royalty”.
The five patents asserted by the suit are:

-No. 5,884,033: “Internet filtering system for filtering data transferred over the internet utilizing immediate and deferred filtering actions;”
-No. 5,566,287: “Method for asynchronously maintaining an image on a display device;”
-No. 6,985,586: “Distributed information storage system;”
-No. 7,900,229: “Convergence of interactive television wireless technologies.”
Last October, OpenTV also filed a patent suit against Netflix in the District Court of the Hague in the Netherlands.
In it, the company alleges that Netflix “infringes its patents and is seeking, among other relief, to enjoin Netflix from further infringement by its recently launched service in the Netherlands.”
In December 2012, Kudelski filed a patent infringement order against Netflix, claiming infringement of seven US patents, with the United States District Court in Delaware.
