Nat Geo People comes to Germany

April 9, 2014 20.20 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Nat Geo PeopleNat Geo People has extended its European distribution to Germany, where the channel was successfully launched on April 5.

Nat Geo People comes as a wholly new feed for this market, at the moment available on the cable platforms Kabel Deutschland, Unitymedia and Kabel Baden Württemberg.

Nat Geo People is already available in Turkey, launched in January 2014 on Turksat and TTNET, and Italy, where it has been available through Sky Italia since March 1. In both cases, Nat Geo People has replaced Nat Geo Adventure, following the company’s strategy defined for those markets where Nat Geo Adventure currently broadcasts.

The launch of Nat Geo People was first announced last September.

Nat Geo People is scheduled to launch in 50 countries and will be present not only in Europe but also in Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The channel represents the next progression in National Geographic Channels International’s expanding portfolio of networks.

“Nat Geo People rounds out our portfolio of linear and non-linear destinations from the National Geographic brand. We thank our partners in Turkey; Germany and Italy for partnering with us on the launch, and for their commitment to delivering more smart and innovative entertainment from the National Geographic brand”, said Diego Londoño, COO of FOX International Channels Europe and Africa.

“Nat Geo People arrives as a natural extension for NGCI, bringing the viewers emotional and entertaining true stories of real people. Our focus is on compelling characters who take you into riveting subcultures and on exhilarating adventures”, said Hamish Mykura, NGCI’s EVP and Head of International Content.
