Russia’s Rostelecom is in talks to buy several TV channels, according to its president, Sergey Kalugin.
Quoted in Vedomosti, he added that one of these channels was Lifenews, though a deal fail to materialise.
Vedomosti says that Rostelecom is essentially restructuring its media assets and believed to be interested in TV channels operated by a number of companies including Sistema and Gazprom Media.
It may also consider the possibility of entering into partnerships with such companies and developing a hybrid platform with NTV-Plus.
Rostelecom is already a key player in Russia’s TV industry, with a 22% in the pay-TV market.
