The Polish public broadcaster TVP has posted a loss of PLN20.5 million (€4.9 million) for 2013, compared to one of nearly PLN200 million a year earlier.
In a statement, it says that in large part the deficit it ran up in 2013 was due to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) moving the revenues from receiver licence fees from last December, amounting to PLN38.7 million, to this January’s figures.
TVP adds that its improved financial performance in 2013 was down to restructuring and savings in programming.
Revenues from receiver licence fees amounted to PLN282.4 million and were up for the second year in a row.
However, they still accounted for only 19% of its total income.
Sponsorship and advertising meanwhile contributed PLN864 million, which were 9% down on 2012. Even so, the last three months of the year saw a sharp upturn in advertising revenues.
TVP also notes that its revenue streams became more diversified in 2013, with advertising on thematic channels growing by 22.3% year-on-year and internet advertising by 107% year-on-year.
