Romania’s National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) has officially launched a tender for five DTT multiplex licences.
Bids for the licences have to be submitted by May 8, with applicants being required to fulfill a number of criteria.
These include being Romanian or foreign companies and with an average turnover of €2 million in the last three years or in the period since their establishment.
Each bidder will initially have to state how many multiplexes they are interested in. If demand exceeds supply then more rounds will be organised.
Four of the multiplexes will be in UHF and one VHF, employing DVB-T2, with the first multiplex allocated to FTA services and required to reach 90% of the population and cover 80% of the country by the end of 2016.
The four other multiplexes will each be required to employ at least 36 transmitters in their coverage area by May 1, 2017.
The starting price for each multiplex will be €300,000, with 10-year licences coming into effect from June 17, 2015.
Romania has also set June 17, 2015 as the ASO date.
