Boost for regional Polish DTT

March 26, 2014 07.48 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

TVTTelewizja TVT, the holder of a broadcasting licence for the Polish regional DTT multiplex L2, has signed a technical cooperation agreement with the company JBD.

Under it, the latter will encode and transmit L2’s signal, employing a headend supplied by Harmonic with MPEG-4 encoders, multiplexers and management system.

The transmitting sites have been equipped with Harris Broadcast transmitters, ready to use DVB-T2 if allowed to do so by regulators.

Commenting on the agreement, Jacek Stefania, CEO of Telewizja TVT, said: “We have received terrestrial frequencies from the Polish regulator which are a very rare and valuable good in Poland. We needed a partner whom we could trust to bring in expertise and an end-to-end solution that fits our needs.

“JBD, with over 20 years of experience in building professional broadcast systems for the biggest Polish broadcasters, has gained our confidence in that area.”

Pawel Niesiolowski, business development manager managed services, JBD, added: “We are grateful for the trust given to us by TVT.

“Our partners, which helped us create this system, are counted among leading brands in broadcast. We are proud that we could combine our experience with their technological leadership to give TVT a top level service.”

Telewizja TVT has held an analogue terrestrial licence since April 2007 and received one for the regional DTT multiplex, serving Rybnik and surroundings, in December 2013. It is also present in a number of cable networks including UPC Polska, Vectra, Orbisat and Broker.

JBD is meanwhile a leading systems integrator working mainly in the Polish broadcast market. It is a value added seller with over 20 years experience and has broadcast its own music channel – STARS.TV – since October 2012.
