Follwowing a court decsion, cloud PVR service Bhaalu may continue to offer its nPVR service in Belgium.
A court in Hasselt has rejected the complaint brought by pay-TV provider TV Vlaanderen, part of the M7 Group. However, a separate case brought by various Flemish broadcasters is still pending.
The Belgian broadcasters accuse Bhaalu of violating copyright by using their signal and want the service suspended and damages paid. A ruling in the case is expected later this year.
With this first round victory, Bhaalu can continue to offer its networked services.
Last November Hasselt-based technology firm Right Brain has launched Bhaalu as a network-PVR that will record all programmes the viewer subscribes to. People can access the service via a dedicated Bhaalu set-top box, a Bhaalu smart stick or via a mobile app (for tablets and phones).
Bhaalu claims its cloud-based PVR service is 100% legal.
