The new OTT challengers can be competors of the tradional cable operators, but they can also be partners.
Rene Obermann, CEO of Ziggo said the answers is not as simple as black and white.
“We should partner, we sell broadband, but with OTT and with variety of internet we sell a better service. In the long run we will see many partnerships.”
interviewed by Cable Europe chairman Matthias Kurt also had to answer his move from Deutsche Telekom to the much smaller Ziggo.
“Imcumbents have had a tough time, but at the time I left, DT was in good shape, it is the number one brand Germany. But I wanted to be nearer the engine room, I want to develop services, be closer to the customer, so I decided to make move and when you’re 50 you can do it.”
Obermann found Ziggo to be “unburaucratic and fast, it is a fairly young company with an informal atmosphere. Also, nobody tries te make lip service, people speak their minds and everyone has controbutions to make.”
