Natura launches in South Africa

February 11, 2014 11.53 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

PrintNatura, the documentary and nature channel owned by Chello Multicanal, has launched in South Africa on the DTH provider Star Sat, and will soon also launch across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The channel is distributed by 3Vision Distribution, and Jonathan Nickell, its COO, said: “Natura’s unique and award-winning content struck an instant chord with operators across Africa and generated significant interest at DISCOP Africa 2013. The Star Sat launch represents the start of the channels roll out across the region in 2014.”

StarSat is operated by StarTimes, a Chinese company founded in 1988 that is a certified Hi-Tech enterprise and “Cultural Exports Key Enterprise” and has become the strongest and biggest system integrator, technology provider and network operator in the country.

StarTimes has registered local companies in 20 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, and carries out operations in 11 countries.

It has nearly 4 million subscribers in Africa.
