The Polish public broadcaster TVP has begun a technical trial aimed at increasing the capacity of the country’s third DTT multiplex, which it has been fully allocated, from eight to 10 channels.
The trials, which began on January 17 and will conclude at the end of this month, are being undertaken from an experimental transmitter from the Palace of Culture in Warsaw and employ H.264 compression technology.
They involve the distribution of the channels TVP1 HD, TVP2 HD, TVP Regionalna, TVP Kultura, TVP Historia, TVP Rozrywka, TVP Polonia and TVP Info.
The ultimate aim is to add HD versions of the flagship channels TVP1 and TVP2, along with six SD channels, to the line-up of on the third multiplex.
The results of the trial will be discussed at a seminar in Warsaw on February 13.
