Jules Oldroyd has been promoted to the position of senior VP of programming strategy and development at National Geographic Channels International (NGCI).
According to NGCI, the promotion is paired with the re-organisation of the senior programming team under Hamish Mykura to further streamline the commissioning strategy for NGCI’s Global Content Hub in London.
In her new role, Oldroyd will manage NGCI’s programming commissioned for its international territories from the London hub, including handling overall strategy decisions and budget.
These responsibilities extend to National Geographic Channel as well as NGCI’s latest channel launch, Nat Geo People, and international commissions for Nat Geo Wild. She will also maintain her current responsibilities of overseeing National Geographic Channel in the UK as programme director, including the scheduling, programming and finance of the network.
NGCI has also restructured its global programming team to further delineate the flow of content from the London hub, international regions and National Geographic Channel’s US commissioning team.
Oldroyd will oversee programming commissioned on a global scale for NGCI’s 170 countries outside the US, while Matt Taylor, senior VP of content international, will create and manage NGCI’s regional and local production strategy worldwide, collaborating with programming teams based in key territories across the globe. Carlyne Staudt, senior VP of global programming and acquisitions, will work closely with the US commissioning group on programming including budget, finance and show delivery for programmes that will air both in the US and in NGCI’s international markets.
Commenting on Oldroyd’s promotion, Hamish Mykura, executive VP and head of international content for NGCI, said: “With her extensive knowledge of the diverse television landscape across international territories, outstanding creative direction and fresh perspective, Jules brings keen insight to this new position.
“I am thrilled to recognise Jules in this new role and to refine our content team’s structure as we continue to leverage National Geographic Channel’s powerful brand across the world.”
Oldroyd and Taylor are based in London and Staudt in Washington D.C., with all three reporting to Mykura.
