UPC Cablecom has acquired an additional cable network on the shore of Lake Biel.
The fibre-optic network in the municipality of Ligerz had previously been operated by Garo Immobilien AG in Brügg. Customers will see little change as the operator already carried UPC supplied products; digital TV, internet and telephony. The company is taking over the Ligerz cable network with retroactive effect from 1 January 2014.
The purchase follows, sometimes controversial, acquisitions in French-speaking Switzerland – including Télécarouge SA and Télélancy SA. Unlike the municipality-owned networks, Ligerz has been in private hands.
Owner WIlly Garo is convinced the sale is the right decision: “I am happy to have found the best solution for our customers together with upc cablecom, as this means they will be able to benefit from first-rate products and services for many years to come”.
Some 200 customers in the municipality with an HD cable connection are affected by the acquisition.
