Ghent based SDNsquare, a provider of Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions has closed a €1.5 million investment round led by the investment and advisory firm Merapar.

SDNsquare offers high performance storage and network products for the media industry which is increasingly challenged by performance and reliability issues in handling large media files. The funding will allow the company to accelerate both its international expansion and the deployment of ‘the grid’. This product optimises the utilisation of network capacity through automated provisioning of end to end IP flows without packet loss. SDNsquare aims to become the global standard for SDN software in ‘mission critical environments’. Merapar targets early-stage companies in the technology, media and telecom sectors.

“SDNsquare illustrates our strategy of investing in companies that are able to disrupt industries and have the potential to make a real difference to people’s lives at work or at home. We firmly believe in the SDNsquare technology and its potential to have an impact around the globe,” said Parm Sandhu, chairman at Merapar.

We are excited at the prospect of working with the excellent SDNsquare-team – especially helping grow the business internationally and in forging strategic partnerships,” added Harry Koiter, partner at Merapar.

Since its inception in 2010, SDNsquare – previously known as Candit-Media-, has built a strong capability in tackling reliability and performance issues in storage and IP networks associated with the flow of bulk data such as very large files and real-time streams and recently won the 2014 Professional Media and Entertainment Class Storage Award for its media data center platform ‘warp’ at the Storage Vision Conference in Las Vegas and was recognized as a Top 3 player in SDN orchestration software by market analyst IT Brand Pulse.

Lieven Vermaele, Founder and CEO of SDNsquare said: “We are delighted to welcome Merapar as investors and partners. Merapar offers us a unique combination of financial security to pursue our strategy and real operational and management support to execute on that strategy. They were real standout candidates amongst all the potential investors we met as part of this investment round. The Merapar teams’ experience and credentials in growing technology businesses internationally will be invaluable to SDNsquare.”
