Antenna Group has appointed Peter Smith as its managing director.
Smith has extensive TV and film production experience and is a former president of NBC Universal International.
Most recently, he was chief executive of Cineflix Studios, where he led the company’s expansion into several markets including the US, Canada and UK.
Smith created and executed a plan at NBC Universal that helped lift its revenues from international operations by more than 60% in four years to $4.1 billion.
Smith’s appointment coincides with Antenna’s continued investment in South East Europe, with recent deals involving PRVA Televizija in Serbia, PRVA Montenegro and Planet TV in Slovenia.
Commenting on Smith’s appointment, Theodore Kyriakou, chief executive of Antenna, said: “Pete Smith is joining Antenna as we embark on the next ambitious stage of our growth strategy. “His 25-year track record in film and television will be invaluable as we consider steps to extend our international media operations. Pete will manage our expansion and help us in creating or buying new and exciting digital assets.”
Smith said: “I am looking forward to working with Theo and the team and developing Antenna’s strong presence in television channels, production and digital entertainment.
“The group has exciting plans for the future, building on the strategic platform established in recent years. I will particularly focus on looking for alliances and opportunities in channels, rights and digital assets across Europe.”
Antenna Group is privately owned by the Kyriakou family and has extensive interests in both the media and shipping industries.
