Samsung opens Opera TV Store

January 6, 2014 08.23 Europe/London By Robert Briel

opera-tv-snapOpera Software has announced just in time for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that the Opera TV Store has added a tenth company, Samsung, to its list of global customers.

The Opera TV Store debuted in March 2012 on Sony Bravia TVs and Blu-ray Disc players and has since shipped on a host of TiVo, TCL and Hisense devices. Agreements have also been announced with MediaTek, Humax, Changhong, Konka and Amino, and, last week, electronics brand Samsung rounded off the list of ten with the addition of the Opera TV Store to selected Blu-ray Disc players.

The HTML5-based Opera TV Store offers hundreds of apps from content owners, spanning video, music, games, social media, news and utilities. It now ships on tens of millions of devices worldwide.

“The Opera TV Store is a win for consumers, manufacturers, operators, brands and content owners. We are delighted that so many key players in the Smart TV industry have selected the Opera TV Store solution to deliver a premium app experience to their viewers,” said Aneesh Rajaram, SVP, TV and devices, Opera Software.

“Opera has designed and continues to evolve a product that is easy to use and simple to deploy – and which truly encourages mass viewer adoption of web content in the living room.”

The Opera TV product portfolio consists of more than just the Opera TV Store, with the Opera Devices Software Development Kit (SDK) and Opera TV browser powering the web experience on devices from more than 50 customers, including Philips, Sharp, Loewe, Vestel and Altech.

During CES in Las Vegas, Opera Software will showcase its Opera TV Snap technology.
