The three Dutch public channels will end their free-to-view service on the CanalDigitaal DTH platform on August 1, 2014.
At the moment Nederland 1, 2 and 3 are available without a subscription, but viewers need a smart card from CanalDigitaal Satelliet.
The Dutch public broadcasters are paying the transponder costs, but will cease to do so because of budget cuts. CanalDigitaal will now foot the bill, but this means the end of the free-to-view situation.
The satellite provider will be making the three channels available as part of its basic bouquet, which costs €12.95 a month. The service is available on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees East.
