Romania’s cable market saw its turnover grow in 2012, while at the same time the total number of operators fell significantly due to consolidation.
The findings of the latest (2013-14) Yearbook produced by Media Expres, in partnership with the cable association ACC, show that there were 382 operators at the end of 2012, compared to 557 in 2011, 583 in 2010 and 593 in 2009.
The industry’s net turnover was €697.7 million, or €25 million more than in 2011, thus reversing a downward trend seen in the previous two years.
However, the Yearbook notes that the turnover does not include figures for Romtelecom, which operates the cable company NextGen Communications.
The cable industry as of a whole had a negative balance sheet, though the figure of €38.9 million was much improved on the previous year’s approximately €90 million.
