The Government has named Dame Patricia Hodgson as the preferred candidate as the next Chairman of Ofcom.
A former member of the BBC Trust, Dame Patricia will face a pre-appointment hearing with the Culture, Media and Sport Committee on December 17.
Current Ofcom chairman Colette Bowe will step down at the end of March 2014 when her term ends.
Dame Patricia the Ofcom Board in July 2011 and became deputy chairman in January 2012. She is also Chair of the School Teachers’ Review Body.
She began her career as a producer and journalist before becoming Secretary of the BBC and Director of Policy and Planning from 1993 to 2000. She then served as Chief Executive of the Independent Television Commission until the end of 2003.
