RTL Deutschland VOD comes to cable

December 6, 2013 09.55 Europe/London By Robert Briel

RTLNow portfolioKabel Deutschland is launching RTL’s on-demand and catchup TV NOW service on its network.

Kabel Deutschland customners have access to catch-up progranmming from RTL and Vox up until seven days after the first broadacst. Also selected previews of a number of programmes are available on demand.

Marc Schröder, Mmmber of the executive board of the Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and managing director of RTL interactive said: “With the offerings of the NOW-family with Kabel Deutschland, we implement our strategy to make our content available anywhere and at any time. The contents is not only available on PC and mobile devices, but now for the first time also over a cable network including dynamic playback of TV commercials. This allows us to establish a viable business model in addition to an attractive non-linear offer.”

With the dynamic targeted advertising feed RTL Deutschland is a pioneer. This new technology allows advertisers to target real “four screen” campaigns (on TV , PC, tablet and smartphone).

In 2007, RTL NOW launched for use on the PC as the first video on demand offer of RTL Deutschland. In the meantime all Free TV Channels of the RTL Deutschland (RTL, VOX, n-tv, RTL Nitro, SUPER RTL and RTL II) have their own NOW-offer.

Since 2010 RTL NOW can also be used as a mobile app, starting this year, including live streaming. This was followed in May this year, the apps for VOX and RTL II NOW NOW. Since the end of 2012 NOW offers are also available for the first time on TV – in broadcast quality on the basis of smart TV HbbTV standard .
