The CFO of Numericable has said a merger with Vivendi’s mobile phone division SFR would make sense.
Thierry Lemaitre told a media conference in Barcelona that such a merger was an option the cablenet might instigate.
A €15 billion merger with SFR was on the cards until the spring this year, when after the failure of talks, Numericable began work on the IPO completed earlier this month.
It is also another move between the cable and mobile sectors as typified by Vodafone’s purchase of Kabel Deutschland.
No talks have taken place while Numericable has been preoccupied by its IPO. The only question is any regulatory obstacle; one advantage for Numericable would be its lack of existing mobile operations.
