The designs of Roland Mouret, Giles Deacon (and Minnie Mouse), Sophie Dahl and Kit Neale are featured on a limited edition set of Sky+ HD receivers.
They feature on the top of the range Sky+HD box, featuring 2TB of storage, and the recently introduced built-in Wi-Fi. The designs go on sale today (Thursday) ahead of the Christmas holiday season.
Fashion designer Mouret and style icon Dahl have taken inspiration from their favourite shows, respectively gritty contemporary drama and romance. Neale has gone for the great outdoors whilst Giles focuses on animation with a fun and contemporary design inspired by Disney’s style icon Minnie Mouse.
Luke Bradley-Jones, Brand Director of TV Products at BSkyB, said: ‘’To celebrate our new Sky+HD 2TB box with built-in Wi-Fi, we wanted to bring to life the content now available On Demand. The service offers something for everyone including romantic and magical drama, a host of Disney movies and fascinating nature documentaries. The limited edition designer boxes represent the fantastic variety of TV that you can watch with Sky On Demand.”
Mouret likened the transformation to a woman putting on a dress: “For me, the Sky box has the same magical quality, the ability to take us out of our world and transport us to somewhere dangerous and exciting. When I look at the contemporary dramas that people love today like Dracula or Hannibal on Sky Living, I see passion cutting through the elegance and the glamour of those worlds”.
While not the first time that Sky has produced designer boxes, this new take comes at a time when on demand, as provided by the Wi-Fi connectivity and accompanying storage, is taking centre stage across all operators.
