Russia’s Rostelecom has moved a stage closer to adopting an ambitious strategy for the period 2014-18.
Quoting two unnamed committee members, Vedomosti says that the strategy has been submitted to the company’s board of directors for approval.
Among the key points of the proposed strategy are adding an additional 20 million households to the 35 million Rostelecom already provides with internet access, via fibre or copper; strengthening its position in the pay-TV market, in which it already has a 22% share, through launching TV Everywhere; entering into partnerships with leading media players who aggregate and produce their own content, allowing it to sell this content on demand; and transferring its mobile assets to a partner, most probably Tele2.
According to Sergey Kalugin, president of Rostelecom, one of the main challenges the company faces is how to become a leading provider of triple-play services.
