United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has backed SeaChange International over an October 2012 decision rejecting allegations by Arris Group had violated a 2006 injunction.
The dispute dates back 12 years to 2001 when the then n-Cube Corporation, later acquired by Arris, began an action claiming SeaChange’s ITV video system infringed an n-Cube patent.
When a 2002 ruling went against them, SeaChange redesigned the video system to avoid further infringement, but seven years later Arris returned to the courts claiming the 2002 system violated the n-Cube injunction.
“SeaChange provides the most innovative video delivery systems in the world and we are pleased that, with today’s affirmation of the U.S. District Court’s decision, the two companies can go back to competing in their respective markets on the strength of their technology and service, instead of in the Courts,” said SeaChange Chief Executive Officer Raghu Rau.
Arris has not issued a comment.
