Netflix to debut on Com Hem TiVo

September 26, 2013 09.25 Europe/London By Julian Clover

tivo-comhemCom Hem has announced details of its TiVo package that will go live on October 7th. From December Netflix will be added to the proposition, making the Swedish cablenet the second operator in Europe to take the streaming service after the UK’s Virgin Media.

Customers can take the three-tuner 1TB TiVo box within subscription packages priced between SEK 145 (€16.71) and SEK439. It will be available from local retailers and direct from Com Hem. In addition TiVoToGo will make the content available across television, computer , mobile phone and tablet devices.

45,000 customers have registered their interest since May 15.

As well as Netflix, Com Hem will offer the British on demand service Cirkus, CMore Play and Viasat Film. Around 12,000 titles will be available in all.

“There are many good television service providers in the market today, but so far, no one has collected all the content in one place. This implies a complex world for consumers where it comes to keeping track of what content was available. No player has taken on the task of collecting and integrating all services in one place and thus make TV viewing easier. This is precisely our vision with TiVo where we want to collect, package, and deliver a complete television solution that provides access to the best content , anytime and on any device you want ,” says Tomas Franzén , CEO of Com Hem.

18 months has been spent on developing TiVo for the Nordic market, which at one point had been slated to launch on the rival Canal Digital satellite platform.

Alongside the launch of the TiVo box Com Hem has restructured some of its programme packages. The operator says the packages have been made larger and several popular channels can now be found in cheaper packages. TiVo Max will shortly be up to 80 channels, 12 more than the previous XL package.

MTV Live HD, Mezzo Live HD, Travel Channel HD and Ginx TV have been added and Fuel TV HD , Kanal 5 HD and Horse & Country will launch later in the autumn.

Not all channels will be available through TiVoToGo; SVT , BBC, MTV, Nickelodeon, Turner and National Geographic will be there from the start, but the popular commercial channel TV4 is still some weeks away.

Initially TiVoToGo will be available for iOS with Android to follow in the autumn.
