Two years on from ASO, the digital terrestrial sector has emerged as a real competitor to cable in the Czech Republic.
According to Antonin Herdlin, honourary chairman of the supervisory board and member of the legal and media panel at the Czech cable association CAEK,There are now 30 DVB-T channels available in the country, including services operated by the public broadcaster CT and some HD versions of SD channels, and in large cities viewers could currently receive up to 25 terrestrial FTA channels.
Herdlin added that pay-DTT services, according to unofficial reports, could make their debut in the Czech Republic in 2015.
He also said that file sharing is a major problem in the Czech Republic but a landmark case which had resulted in the imposition of a €20,000 fine.
In addition, there is currently insufficient interest in VOD services in the Czech Republic.
