IBC 2013 – AMSTERDAM Viaccess-Orca has shown the latest iteration of DEEP, its online magazine that links directly to content displayed on a tablet.
When the name of an actor, show, or movie is highlighted, subscribers can click the link to read an instant magazine based on the topic. The material is drawn from the web and a number of partner sites.
Haggai Barel, Deputy CEO of Viaccess-Orca, says such features are necessary now that everyone has a voice. “Suddenly people can do a blog, post on Twitter, look at that guy no one heard him five years ago, now he has the stage.
Barel says this evolution of the pay-TV product, referred to as the Evolution Model, is needed now that subscribers have a real choice as to where they take they premium content from. It is, Barel says, vital to treat the subscriber as an individual now they have a voice. “Immersion is taking this to the next level it is no longer enough to give them a thumbnail, the name of a movie and a buy button.”
