The Dutch public broadcasters have launched a new app, called NPO, which combines live TV and radio and catch-up TV.
The completely revamped Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO) app is available for download in the iTunes App Store. The application is built by Stoneroos, commissioned by the NPO and replaces the current Uitzending Gemist app, which only served as a catch-up TV platform.
The app makes it possible to watch the three main Dutch public channels, Nederland 1, 2 and 3, and listen to the radio, live (Radio 1, 2, 3FM, 4, 5 and 6), as well as requests programmes on-demand.
Furthermore, the app contains several features including a search feature, which makes it easy to find your favourite program. Every day, the app will highlight a couple of programmes, it will have a list of all the programs in alphabetic order and makes it easy to see what programs are being watched most.
Some new features of the application are the possibility to store the TV programmes in a ‘Watch later’ list.
In the future the NPO app will allow the use of second screen and interactivity with the TV programmes of the NPO. Future updates of the app will focus on the possibilities with second screen, in combination with audio mark synchronisation technology
