Discovery plans to offer its entire portfolio of channels available in Poland in HD by the end of 2014.
Speaking to Wirtualne Media about the company’s strategy, Olgierd Dobrzynski, Central Europe country manager, Discovery Networks CEEMEA, added that the more immediate switch of Discovery World with Discovery Turbo Xtra, due to take place on September 17, is designed to attract more viewers.
Dobrzynski also spoke about the growing cooperation between Discovery and Eurosport, in which the company already holds a 20% stake.
In addition, he expressed his disappointment with Discovery not securing a licence to operate the channel DMAX on Poland’s first multiplex, adding that it has no plans to distribute the channel via satellite.
Discovery currently distributes seven channels in Poland, three of which – Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC – are in HD.
