Orange is considering a change of strategy in Europe in the light of recent developments in the continent’s telco market.
Speaking at a press conference and quoted by Bloomberg, the company’s CEO Stephane Richard said that it would seek to consolidate its position in several countries including Spain and Poland.
At the same time, it would consider fixed-line acquisitions in Belgium and Romania, where it currently sells only wireless services.
This possible change is being prompted by consolidation in what is still a fragmented marketplace and in particular the possible approval of Telefónica and KPN to combine their German assets in a move Richards said would “create an earthquake in Europe” and “force other countries to reconsider their positions on consolidation”.
