Twitter is testing a new ‘TV Trending’ box at the top of user timelines. The new feature, first reported in TechCrunch, adds Twitter cards to the top of user timelines, adding in links to popular US TV shows alongside related data from Tweets and show information.
The cards then link through to pages related to the show in question with further Tweets.
Currently the box is only visible on iOS devices, not the desktop version of Twitter, placing this very much as a second screen application.
Broadcasters increasingly use Twitter hashtags to encourage audiences to participate in their shows.
There are also increasing studies in the number of Tweets related to a particular show or broadcast.
