The Italian Ministry of Economic Development authorised the conversion of Mediaset’s DVB-H multiplex into a DVB-T mux.
This brings the total numkber of muxes available to Silvio Berlusconi’s medie empire to five, which is also the maximum allowed for a single broadcaster.
The decision not to use the DVB-H standard is one more nail to the offin of the mobile TV standard, whoch failed to materialise its promise.
Italian press repoets now specukate about the possinility that mediaset will use the new DTT capacity for terrestrial HD broadcasts.
The broadcaster currently has two HD channels on DTT, Premium Cinema HD and two Calcio HD channels (football).
