YouView has received applications from over 130 IP-delivered channels that it expects to launch over the next year.
The plans were revealed as part of a consultation into the numbering of DTT channels by Digital UK. The organisation has been exploring a reorganisation of the so-called Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs) for both IP and HD channels.
There was some debate over the demand for IP-delivered channels. While YouView suggested that its planned launched of IP services during the simmer would require the full number range between 400 and 599, its own shareholder Arqiva said that there was not yet detailed compelling evidence from IP television providers.
Arqiva also runs its own IP-delivered channel business Connect TV.
HD channels will be given their own dedicated section within the numbering system. The exception being for Children’s and Adult channels.
Digital UK says it plans to return to the issue of HD numbering at a later date.
