BBC Knowledge and BBC HD expand in Turkey

August 6, 2013 08.07 Europe/London By Robert Briel

BBC Knowledge and BBC HD Channels will be made available for the first time on satellite platform Digiturk from August 13th.

The channels will join renewed carriage contracts of existing BBC Entertainment and BBC World News, effectively doubling BBC presence available on the provider. BC HD will now be available on all Turkish pay TV platforms.

BBC Worldwide EVP for CEMA, Ian McDonough said in a statement: “This is terrific news for us, and for viewers. Now, as well as BBC Entertainment and BBC World News, an even wider audience will be able to watch more of our world-class programming. This is yet another big step in our channels portfolio expansion throughout CEMA.”

“As the first and leading digital platform of Turkey, we are glad to present BBC HD and BBC Knowledge to Digiturk subscribers,” added Digiturk head of content, Esra Ozaral.

“We constantly renew our content and technological infrastructure according to our subscribers’ expectations. BBC HD and BBC Knowledge will certainly provide added value to our platform. We believe both channels will fill a gap in terms of meeting Digiturk audiences’ expectations. BBC HD broadcasts the best BBC content with Turkish subtitle options for all types of audiences. More than a thematic channel broadcasting a specific program type, BBC HD offers diverse content from movies and TV series to entertainment shows and news, while BBC Knowledge broadcasts high quality cultural shows and documentaries 24 hours a day.”

BBC Knowledge was launched earlier this year in Cyprus, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. B
