RTL Deutschland will today, Wednesday July 31, switch off its DVB-T broadcasts in the Munich area.
As announced, the German private broadcaster will stop distributing RTL, RTL2, Vox and Super RTL on the digital terrestrial network. RTL argues that the costs of terrestrial broadcasts are not compensated by additional advertising revenue.
The freed-up capacity will be taken by the ProSiebenSat.1 grouop, who is launching its Sat.1 Gold channel in Munich as well as Nuremberg. In Septmeber the broadcaster will also launch ProSieben Maxxon DTT.
Private broadcaster Tele5, owned by the Tele München Gruppe, will also start broadcasting on DVB-T in Munich from Thursday, August 1.
