Magine signs RTL Deutschland deal

July 25, 2013 08.47 Europe/London By Robert Briel

RTL Deutschland programmesMediengruppe RTL Deutschland will be making six of its channels available to German viewers via Magine, the new online-based TV delivery platform.

This extensive content agreement is the first of its kind for the Scandinavian TV service in Germany. The platform will be offering the stations RTL, Vox, n-tv, RTL Nitro, Super RTL and RTL II in its subscription service package. Magine is currently available on Apple devices and Samsung Smart TVs. Additional TV platforms and an Android version will soon be on the market.

Marc Schröder, executive board member of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and managing director of RTL interactive commented, “By distributing our linear TV programs via Magine, the viewers have an additional option to receive our free TV offering via the internet. At the same time, Magine’s user friendliness is unique. That is why we see such great potential in this collaboration”.

Michael Werner, chairman of Magine, added: “We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the stations of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland. Magine has reinvented TV and Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland was extremely quick to recognize the potential of our services. Magine can offer the broadcasters security on two fronts: First of all, they can maximize their reach by offering the audience new possibilities to use their content. Secondly – and even more importantly – Magine complies with existing legal requirements and procedures. For broadcasters, this business model makes Magine a reliable partner on the market.”

Since its initial launch this March in Sweden, the Magine service has been extremely successful, working together with the national television stations SVT and TV4 as well as international channels and brands such as Discovery, CNN International, BBC, Eurosport, National Geographic, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.
