Entone teams up with LG

July 25, 2013 07.11 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Entone, the provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, has announced the integration of LG Electronics’ Netcast media streaming platform with Entone’s hybrid media gateway.

The combined solution is designed to deliver linear TV and over-the-top (OTT) online TV services to internet-connected consumer electronics devices without the need for a traditional set-top box.

Entone has teamed up with LG to develop a streaming player application specifically targeting subscribers of broadband service providers, selected cable operators and other MVPDs. The first LG Netcast-enabled device supported by Entone will be the LG SP530 Media Player. The SP530 supports OTT video services such as Netflix, VUDU, Hulu and YouTube.

“Entone has pioneered the market with hundreds of IPTV and Hybrid TV deployments,” said Steve McKay, CEO of Entone. “The connected home platform we’ve developed with LG creates an even higher level of service richness and flexibility for the end consumer while improving the economics of service delivery for the operators.”

The LG SP530 can operate on a standalone basis over any Internet connection. When integrated with Entone’s FusionTV application and Magi hybrid media gateway, the media player is enriched with the support of live TV, whether delivered over-the-air (OTA) or through an authenticated pay-TV service.

Kurt Hoppe, Director of Smart TV Platform Innovation at LG Electronics, says, “By bringing together the proven global leadership of the LG Netcast media streaming platform and Entone’s market leadership in hybrid set-top boxes and media gateways, we believe we have a combined solution that will help operators take their services to a new level – delivering richer content and a superior user experience.
