The Polish public broadcaster TVP had better than expected financial results in the first half of this year, posting a record profit of PLN8.7 million (€2.1 million) before tax.
Its revenues from receiver licence fees in June amounted to PLN16.1 million, compared to PLN11.4 million in the corresponding period last year.
They were also PLN1.7 million than was envisaged in its budget.
Furthermore, revenues from receiver licence fees were 25% up in the first half of this year.
On the other hand, revenues from advertising were 13.7% lower, due largely to a recession in the ad market, while TVP’s operating expenses in H1 were reduced by PLN60.8 million.
TVP points out that its positive financial results were achieved largely at the expense of limiting the range of programmes and reducing production costs.
This, in turn, made its output less appealing to viewers.
