BT is giving a makeover to the humble beermat as part of its launch campaign for BT Sport.
The telco is using augmented reality technology developed by Blippar that allows users to scan items with their smart phones to instantly see video content.
Several thousand beer mats, bar towels and posters using Blippar have been sent to commercial premises where BT’s Premier League coverage will be screened.
BT Sport will also be supporting publicans and the owners and managers of commercial premises via the website www.BTSportbusiness.com which will contain helpful content to drive more customers into the business, including downloadable fixture posters and digital images and videos to help with social media outreach.
BT market research suggests that out of the 75,000 pubs and clubs in the UK, just under 50% are showing free-to-air sports alone.
