The Russian Orthodox channel Spas aims to secure a slot on the country’s second DTT multiplex.
At the same time, reports Kommersant, it will be reformatted into a conservative public information channel in order to attract more viewers.
This will be in line with the government’s strategy of developing the conservative media in Russia.
Spas is currently distributed by cable and satellite to over 10 million homes via a number of platforms including NTV-Plus and Tricolor TV.
Some 40% of its output is allocated to orthodox (religious) programmes, with the remainder being educational and documentaries.
