UltraViolet is set to launch in Germany and France beginning September 30.
Speaking to Handelsblatt, David Bishop, president, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, said the introduction campaign will be spearheaded by the James Bond title Skyfall and other blockbusters from the studios that are backing UltraViolet.
Further UV launches in Luxembourg, Holland and Belgium are planned, but there is as yet no time-table. At the moment, UV is available in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zeeland.
UltraViolet is a digital rights authentication and cloud-based licensing system that allows users of digital home entertainment content to stream and download purchased content to multiple platforms and devices.
It is deployed by the 74 members of the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem consortium, which includes film studios, retailers, consumer electronics manufacturers, cable TV companies, ISPs, network hosting vendors, and other internet systems and security vendors, with the notable exceptions of Disney and Apple.
