The Lithuanian incumbent telco TEO will from today (June 20) take part in a unique international cinema experiment.
It will see the release of a documentary film called Viramundo take place on the same day in cinemas as on TEO’s IPTV Interactive Gala TV VOD service.
The aim of the experiment, which has been initiated by European film makers, is to promote new film distribution models and to offer an alternative to the established practice, when films are distributes on VOD or DVD only after their cinematic release.
It is expected that a change to simultaneous releases would be beneficial for non-commercial and low-budget moviemakers. Poland, the UK, Portugal, France and Luxembourg are also participating in the experiment.
