Media such as newspapers and radio are increasingly turning to TV apps.
In the case of the former, according to Bruno Pereira, director TV App Agency, they are going straight into the video world and tend to see them as digital channels rather than apps.
London-based TV App Agency was launched two years ago and Pereira cited examples of companies it has already worked with.
They include Absolute Radio, for which it has developed a radio app and the UK’s first mobile convergence app; NBCUniversal’s Picturebox (VOD app); and Leroy Merlin (DIY VOD app).
Meanwhile in Spain, its a la carte VOD app for RTVE is achieving 2.3 million views a month, and its Olympics app last year, on Samsung and in Spain only, had 250,000 unique users.
Other clients the company has worked with include LigaBBVA (Spain) and National Rail (UK).
Speaking about the wider market, Pereira identified TotalMovie, a VOD app whose owners are buying content, offering SVOD with simulcast and looking at transactional.
They were effectively “attacking” national broadcasters and the app could in his view be likened to Skype.
